Roxbury Community College
Located in Boston's Roxbury Crossing neighborhood, the Roxbury Community College is a co-educational public community college established in 1973. Currently, the enrollment at the college is around 2,300 students. The institution is overseen by a community-based Board of Trustees who are appointed by the Governor of Massachusetts, in partnership with the College president.
Roxbury Community College offers a wide range of Associate Degree and Certificate programs. Credit courses offered online include Computerized Accounting, Management, Business Law, Economics, and others. Non-credit courses are also offered.
The Office of Corporate and Community Education at Roxbury Community College designs education programs and skills enhancement courses for individuals who want to upgrade their workplace skills and become more competitive in the job market, as well as corporate training solutions that are cost-effective and efficient. Training programs include courses for Cisco Training, Customer Service, Executive Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Transcription, Pharmacy Tech, Veterinary Assistant, and others.
The Academic Advising Center on campus exists to assist students in getting the most out of their educational experience. The academic advisors can help students to develop an academic plan of study which they can monitor for progress, or discuss other academic-related student concerns. Many activities for student information and engagement are also regularly organized by the Advising Center.
Meanwhile, the Career Development office assists specifically with career planning and employment-related concerns. The staff at Career Development can help students navigate the career planning process, help with preparing resumes and cover letters, and assisting with internship placements. Career Development also has existing partnership with local employers to connect them with job-seekers.
Sports and recreational activities are held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. For fitness enthusiasts, the facility has a weight training and cardiovascular area which includes state-of-the-art equipment, including weight training machines, squat racks, and cardiovascular equipment. Strength training and group exercise classes are also offered at the facility.
Health services are also provided to students on campus. The Health Services Office is staffed by a registered nurse on duty, and emergency and routine treatments are available for common illnesses or injuries. The office also provides other services free of charge, such as weight management, blood pressure screening, AIDS awareness campaigns, etc. More complicated health needs are referred to appropriate health care facilities.
